Everyday
we hear about people that continue to be unfed, unhealthy,
uneducated, or unsafe. What prevails through all these issues
though is the underlying fact that people are uninformed about
the tools that can improve their communities and lives.
Hispanic
immigrants, for example, suffer information disparities that
pervade almost every aspect of their lives. New to their environment
and often facing linguistic challenges, Hispanic immigrants
miss the information critical to securing their health, education,
safety, and prosperity. As a consequence, we see much of the
Hispanic community fairing poorly in math and science, facing
disproportionate rates of diabetes and cancer, and making
up one-half of the entire gang culture in this country.
to
the information they need.
At
the Self Reliance Foundation, we address the needs of these
forgotten or underserved populations by supplying them with
the information, education, and resources that enable them
to confront the problems they face and prevent the problems
that loom. Our years of experience have shown us that
our social marketing model works well for this purpose.
By using an effective combination
of media, outreach, community partnerships, and referral services,
we are able to deliver indelible messages that are distinct
and meaningful for the cultures they target. Through our campaigns,
SRF truly brings the world into the lives of the underserved.
