Whenever language and cultural barriers deny U.S. Hispanics basic
civil entitlements, SRF is there to help: How do I apply for
a Small Business Loan? What scholarships are available for my
children? How can I get health insurance? SRF answers these
questions for U.S. Hispanics through
mass media, community outreach, information and referral,
and training.
SRF's Linea Nacional de Recursos
Hispanos (National Hispanic Resource
Helpline) receives calls Monday through Friday, 8:00am
to 7:00pm, from Spanish-speakers seeking health resources, education,
and community information (800-473-3003).
SRF also campaigns on behalf of
such organizations as the National Science Foundation, the National
Institutes of Health, and other grant makers that wish to reach
out to the Hispanic community.
Our Celebra la Ciencia program, for example, offers science
exhibits at Latino community festivals around the country.
Through our Student
Fellows initiative, SRF trains young people in community outreach.
In partnership with La
Red Hispana, (Hispanic Radio Network,) SRF also develops
quality informational radio programming on science, technology,
environment, health, law, social justice, the arts, and culture.
