The
National
Hispanic
Resource Help-Line provides support for Latinos throughout the
nation who need information about educational, health and human service
providers. We provide early intervention and resource support for people
in times of personal and family crisis. We simplify the maze of social
service programs and help people find the strength to cope in even the
most difficult situations. Our service reinforces the individual’s capacity
for self-reliance and self-determination through education, referrals,
affirmation, advocacy, collaborative planning and problem solving.

The people we
reach...
SRF’s audience
is composed of diverse sectors of the Hispanic population with equally
diverse needs and interests. We serve new immigrants, naturalized or
U.S.-born citizens, farm workers, professionals, and people living in
both remote and urban areas who need information about the health, social,
and educational services that exist in their communities. One
call to the National Hispanic Resource Helpline puts people
directly in touch with bilingual information and referral (I&R)
specialists, who have community-based resources throughout the nation
at their fingertips. Many of our specialists are immigrants, have been
there themselves, and bring a special empathy to their work. SRF maintains
a strict policy of confidentiality for all of our callers.

SRF’s resource
database supports referral efforts and also provides an inventory of
human services available to the Hispanic community. The demographic
data we document helps us review gaps in services throughout the country
and assist in establishing funding priorities.

“I
am calling back to thank you for your help. I’m very happy that they
are delivering food to my house. The social worker set up a doctor’s
appointment for me and I’m getting a free bus ride to the clinic.
I also received coupons for free bus rides in the city. Three days
ago, I was feeling like there was no help for me, and now there is
so much help. God Bless you mi’jita for caring so much.”

Florida
“I am so grateful
to you for helping me find an organization who would help us when
my daughter ran away from home. My wife and I needed an understanding
person who could do more for us than just file a report. Our daughter
is home safely now. It is so important for others to know that there
is help in their community. I never knew how many services were out
there until I called your helpline.”
