Bob Russell is Science Advisor to the Self Reliance Foundation and head of the Celebra la Ciencia initiative. Until 1993 he was Program Director with the National Science Foundation's $35 million/year Informal Science Education Program. Bob has over twenty years of rich and varied experience in education, including cross-cultural, educational, and evaluation research, university teaching, and service as director of two museums - the Omaha Children's Museum and Impression 5 Science Museum. He is co-founder and. until recently. Chairman of Informal Learning Experiences, Inc., a consulting firm where his clients included the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association of Science-Technology Centers, the National Institutes of Health, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the National Wildlife Federation, the Self Reliance Foundation, the Hispanic Radio Network, Lucent Technologies Foundation, National Council of La Raza, and a host of science museums and zoos.

He is co-editor of The Informal Learning Review, a publication that covers the field of informal education, and he has published research on friendship networks among adolescents, the development of mathematical thinking, learning problems in mathematics, and cross-cultural comparisons of the development of mathematical thinking. Erica Baca

Erica Baca works for the Self Reliance Foundation's as a Health Science Fellow helping to coordinate the Celebra la Ciencia program, which brings science activities, health career information, and health literacy promotion to Latino families in communities across the United States. She is a senior at American University in Washington DC majoring in Public Communication with a minor in French Studies. She is originally from Mexico City, Mexico but has lived in Maryland and Texas as well and spent a semester abroad in Cannes, France. She has worked for three years at American University's TV studio assisting in master control engineering and assisting other students and users with studio equipment. She plans on continuing her studies at the graduate level in Radio, Television and Film and wants to work specifically with the Latin American audience.

Katherina Bedon

Katherina is currently a senior at the University of Maryland- College Park, graduating in Fall 2006 with a B.S. in Public and Community Health. In past, she has worked for the Department of Physics for the Nuclear Theory research group, assisting in administrative work as well as maintaining the their website. Her interest in health promotion, specifically to the Hispanic populations, as well as experience in organizational structure has brought her to the Self Reliance Foundation. As a Health Science Fellow for the Celebra La Ciencia program, she now helps to organize and implement community outreach events and also maintains the Celebra la Ciencia website. In the future, Katherina plans on attending Nursing School.

Yisel Cabrera

Yisel graduated from the University of Tampa with a B.A. in Government and World Affairs and a minor in International Relations. Before joining SRF, Yisel held internships in Government Relations at Shaw Pitmman LLP, in Washington, DC and in Legislative Affairs at Senator Bob Graham's South Florida District Office. Her interest in the advancement and the empowerment of the Hispanic community, brought her to the Self Reliance Foundation where she now coordinates the area Celebra la Ciencia program which brings science activities, health career information, and health literacy promotion to Latino families in communities across the United States.

Angie Garcia

Angie is a Public and Community Health major at the University of Maryland, College Park. She has worked as a Research Science Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in the Department of Pathology. Currently, she is a Health Science Fellow at Self Reliance Foundation in which she helps coordinate the Celebra La Ciencia Program by going out to Public and Charter schools in the DC area promoting education and awareness on science and health issues, along with hands-on activities and reading material.

Karen Tibabuzo
Information and Referral Specialist

Karen Tibabuzo works for the Self Reliance Foundation's National Hispanic Resource Helpline as an Information and Referral Specialist. Karen received her B.A. in Veterinarian Medicine at the Agrarian University of Colombia. While living in Bogotá, she worked as a Food Processing Educator for El Servicio Nacional de Enseñanza (SENA), Colombia's National Education Service. She also served as an educator in the rural areas surrounding Bogotá, teaching Spanish, mathematics, family planning, child development, adult and child nutrition. She came to the United States several years ago to study English as a Second Language, and during this time she interned with Hispanic Radio Network as a Coordinator of Affiliates, working closely with Latino radio stations and newspapers throughout the United States. Karen is currently studying Human Services at the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA).
